Meeting date/time: Every Tuesday, from
7:00 to 8:30 PM
Meeting place: The old jail behind the Metamora
Methodist Church
We are BSA Troop 167, located in Metamora, Ohio. We have **
boys on the charter, with a regular attendance of about 7 to 10
boys per night. The troop has boys from as close as a block away,
to as far as downtown Swanton. Everybody is welcome; there are
always adults on hand to supervise. We take pride in the fact
that parents have always had a close roll in how the troop
operates. The meetings are almost exclusively run by the scouts,
with all instructionals and games carried out under the guidance
of the Junior Leader Staff. The JLS consists of the Senior Patrol
Leader (SPL), Assistant Senior Patrol Leader (ASPL), and Troop
Guide.
The average meeting:
the Senior Patrol Leader runs the meeting, with
assistance from the ASPL. We open with the pledge of allegiance,
the scout law, and scout oath. At that point the scouts are
seated, and any announcements are made. The schedule, which is
made a week in advance, is reviewed. An average meeting will
include an instructional from the Troop Guide, work on
advancement, and then a sport or game.
A little history:
The troop will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2001,
quite a feat for a town of Metamora's size. The building that we
use was previously the town jail, and still even has an empty
cell. A number of upgrades have been made of late, including
complete painting of the inside surfaces, new siding, and the
addition of a new heating system. We have records, ribbons, and
awards dating back to the starting days of the troop, and even
some old photographs.
Anybody who is of the age of **, or entering the sixth grade is
welcome. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion,
or disability. If you would like more information on joining the
troop, write to ******* OR Email us at [email protected]
